The Doctrine of Salvation – Part 7

IV. Adoption

A. Defined – Adoption means “the placing as a son; the taking by one man of the son of another to be his son, so that son has the same position and all advantages of a son of birth.” (God has one only begotten son – Jesus Christ: John 1:1,14; 1:18; 3:16-18; Acts 13:33; Hebrews 1:5-6; 5:5; 1 John 4:9).

Galatians 4:1-7 “Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”

Romans 8:14-17 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”

Ephesians 1:3-6 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”

B. Adoption is the present condition of the saved who are now God’s children. 1 John 3:2 “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” Galatians 3:26 “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

C. Adoption is also the future condition of the saved. The saved are God’s children forever. Romans 8:23 “And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” 1 Corinthians 15:49 “And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.” Psalm 17:15 “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.”

When someone writes an paragraph he/she keeps the plan of a
user in his/her mind that how a user can be aware of it.
Thus that’s why this paragraph is amazing.
    Thanks!

Adoption is one of my favourite doctrines.
I spent many years wishing that I could find out that I had been adopted, because then I would know that at one time, someone must have wanted me and maybe even loved me – even for a little while.

Imagine my overbounding joy, when at my very first Bible study group after becoming a Christian, I was asked to read the next verses in the passage being studied. As I read Romans 8:14-17 I realised that I had been adopted into the family of God – adopted by the almighty, perfect, Father God, Creator of the universe. HE had adopted ME as His own blood-bought child! Incredible but true!

Now, almost 56 years later, I still can’t comprehend such love, but I praise God for the REALITY of the experience.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful testimony. It truly is wonderful to realize that adoption means He chose me. God Bless You!
