Holy Unto God

Image result for images for living holy to god

What does God’s Word say about being Holy? First let us look at how God is Holy. 1 John 1:5 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” There is no sin in God at all. He is totally separate from anything evil. For us to have fellowship with Him, we must strive to be Holy. When we live in sin, we break fellowship with Him. Understand that we cannot be perfect as He is until we go to be with Him. But we must, with all our hearts, live each day trying to live separate from sin so that we may have fellowship with God. My devotion this morning touched on daily cleansing ourselves of sin so that we may have fellowship with God. The cleansing comes from examining myself each day and confessing and repenting of my sins, as well as asking God to show me of any un-confessed sin that I need to bring before Him. Since I am born with a sinful, fleshly nature, I am bound to commit some sin every day of my life. So, I need a daily cleansing. This is part of trying to be holy unto God.

1 Peter 1:16 “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” Quotes Leviticus 19:2 “Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.” We see that because God is holy, He calls us to be holy. If we are living under the influence of this world, we are apart from God and cannot be holy. The only way we can live holy unto God is by the power of His Holy Spirit. Therefore, we must first be saved by the blood of Jesus and filled with His Spirit to be able to even try to live a holy life. God reveals any un-confessed sin in our lives through His Holy Spirit. If we try to just “be good people” we are doing things on our own. Being good does not get us to Heaven. John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Once we are saved, then the Holy Spirit’s power aids us in living holy or righteously for God. 1 Peter 1:14-16 “As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; (not just in our speech, but in how we live our lives) Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” We can be holy by being obedient to God in ALL areas of our lives. To be able to obey God, we must KNOW God – Psalm 119:9-12 “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.” To know God’s Word, is to know God.

If we are truly spending time with our Lord each day and in His Word and hiding it in our hearts, it will show outwardly and some in this world will see and possibly come to know Him too. Our speech will change, our faces will probably smile more because our hearts are smiling more. Our dress when we come into His house will change as well. When we first start walking with the Lord, we may not understand that how we dress in His house and in His Service reflects where we are in our walk with Him. It is the Holy Spirit’s job to convict a child of God of things in our outward appearance as to where we are in our holiness. If we are dressing like we are going to a back yard B-B-Q instead of wearing our best to His house, we still need work in our hearts. Only the Holy Spirit can do that. That is why we pray for each other in these areas. As we grow closer to Him, we understand that, and are happy to show Him respect by giving Him our best when we come to His house, or when we serve Him. That comes with time. I have always pondered how some can have no problem whatsoever dressing nice and respectful for a friend’s wedding, for example, but coming to the house of our Holy God Jehovah in disrespect and immodesty. But, that is something I leave to the Lord. It is my responsibility to act according to God’s direction and set an holy example for Him. I have to remind myself that children are not being taught, as I was, that when we come into God’s house, we show Him respect, by dressing in our best.

Psalms 99

1 The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.

2 The LORD is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people.

3 Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy.

4 The king’s strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

5 Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.

6 Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.

7 He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the ordinance that he gave them.

8 Thou answeredst them, O LORD our God: thou wast a God that forgavest them, though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions.

9 Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.

No Greater Love!

Well, here we are in a brand new year. For me, 2016 was not so bad. I have many blessings to count. As I move into 2017, I am reminded of God’s words in John 15. The command that Jesus gave the brethren to love one another. Isn’t it bad enough that the world is our enemy and inflicts all sorts of evil upon us? The world knows not the Father, but the brethren do know Him. Let us not act like the world for we are not of this world. As we know, being Christian does not mean we are perfect; we are just doing our best to grow to be like Jesus more every day. We will offend each other, and when we do, we must ask forgiveness and forgive. And, when one asks forgiveness, let us not demand our “pound of flesh,” which comes from pride through our enemy, but as Jesus said, “Forgive as I have forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32. Let us join together as His children and truly love one another that the world may see that love that comes from our Heavenly Father and want to be a part of God’s Kingdom too.

John 15

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.

22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.

23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

The Doctrine of Heaven – Part 13

III. The New Heaven and the New Jerusalem

https://godswordforwomen.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/b13f3-burning-earth.jpg2 Peter 3:9-13 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”

The three heavens are dissolved and melted with a fervent heat and a great noise. This is in fulfillment of the Prophecies of Isaiah:

Isaiah 65:17 “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.” All of our wounds that we bear today will simply be no more, nor will we have any remembrance of them!

Isaiah 66:22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.”

What glorious promises. Even though the current Third Heaven would be glorious to go to, – Philippians 1:21, 23 “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain…; For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:” it has been contaminated by the devil and demons – Revelation 12:7-10 “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” God has to humble Himself just to look upon it – Psalm 113:6 “Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!” He does not consider it clean – Job 15:15 “Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.”

Now go back and read what Peter and Isaiah just promised about the New Heaven, above.

Let us now return to Revelation 21 and 22 to learn what the New Heaven and the New Jerusalem will be like.

The New Heaven

https://i0.wp.com/bibleprophecycentralministries.weebly.com/uploads/1/1/0/4/11040772/3359092_orig.jpgThere will be no more sea – Rev. 21:1 “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” There will be a fountain of water – Rev. 21:6 “And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.” There will also be a river of water – Rev. 22:1 “And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” But there will be no sea.

The New Jerusalem, a city prepared by Christ for His bride – John 14:2 “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”, will be seen coming down from the New heaven to the New Earth. This city is prefixed by the word “holy” three times. Rev. 21:2, 21:10, 22:8 “And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”; “And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,”; “And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.”

This thrice-holy city will be inhabited by God Himself – Rev. 21:3 “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” This is announced by a great voice from Heaven. The Tabernacle of God is God Himself. As glorious as the description of the New Heaven will get, nothing is greater than the fact that God will dwell with men. This will be as real as when God used to walk with Adam and Eve, only here there will be no night – Rev. 21:25 “And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.”

God will wipe away all tears from our eyes – Rev. 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Never will a person cry. No one will ever die. The saved are immortal – 1 Corinthians 15:54 “So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” Sorrow will be banished. Never will one feel sorrow, guilt, shame, embarrassment, or remorse. All tears of the past will be wiped away and never will one cry in the future, New Heaven and New Earth. Only humans are created with lachrymal glands that can be stimulated by emotions to produce tears. These will not be needed in the New Heaven. There will be no crying. There will be no more pain. This is unimaginable, no pain of any kind! The former things are passed away, and will not be remembered (Isaiah 65:17). All of this was prophesied in Isaiah 25:8 “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.” I love the confirmation in that last phrase, “FOR THE LORD HATH SPOKEN IT”! How I look forward to no more of the pain that comes with degenerative arthritis.

The Lord on His throne declares that He will make all things new! His words, as always, are true and faithful – Rev. 21:5 “And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”

In light of the description of the New heaven in Rev. 21:1-5, verses 6-8 seem to be a gospel invitation – Verse 6 – Jesus is the Water of Life. Any can partake freely.

Verse 7 – Those who are overcomers become His children and inherit all things – 1 John 5:4-5 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” Romans 8:16-17 “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”

Verse 8 – Those who do not believe will have their part in the Lake of Fire.

Revelation 21:

1   And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2   And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3   And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4   And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5   And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6   And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7   He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8   But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
9   And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
10   And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11   Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
12   And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13   On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14   And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15   And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
16   And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
17   And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
18   And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
19   And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
20   The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
21   And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
22   And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
23   And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24   And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
25   And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
26   And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27   And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

The Doctrine of Heaven – Part 12

John’s Witness of the Third Heaven – Part 8

We ended our last post with the “Alleluia” celebration taking place in the Third Heaven after the Judgment of the “Great Whore” – Revelation 19:1-6 “And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. And again they said, Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”

That text inspired the writing of the “Hallelujah Chorus” by George Frederick Handel. It was considered the first song to prompt a standing ovation. As glorious as the performance of this music is, I ask you to listen to it and try and imagine what the chorus in Heaven will sound like:

I am willing to proclaim that it will be above anything we can imagine! And we true Believers will be a part of it! I sense the need to stop here and ask, Dear Reader, “If, God forbid, something happens and you die tomorrow, do you know for a certainty that you will be a part of God’s Family in Heaven?” If you cannot say yes to that question, I take this time now to beg you to please click on the tab at the top of this page titled “The Only Way” and call out to God for His Salvation. NOW is the appointed time! “WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED!”

If you need to reach out, please contact me via the Contact Anna tab at the top. God Bless You!

The Doctrine of Heaven – Part 10

John’s Witness of the Third Heaven – Part 6

Revelation 5:9 “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;” This is the 2nd New Song in the Third Heaven.

English: Angel of the Revelation

English: Angel of the Revelation (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Another angel flies from the middle of Heaven with the everlasting gospel to preach to them on the earth –  Revelation 14:6-7 “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” God still cares for the earth’s inhabitants. The saints are in Heaven – those saved out of the Tribulation are now in Heaven – the 144,000 are now in Heaven. Yet God still cares for the souls on earth. A new method to reach them is sent – an angel! How could any on earth resist that!? Yet, sadly some do. But, everyone has the opportunity to hear the gospel!

The angel’s message is “fear God and worship God.” There is no confusion any more as to God’s identity – Revelation 10:7 – no more mystery. The whole world knows His name is Jesus. He is the Creator – Colossians 1:16 “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:”

  • Another angel follows this angel with a message of condemnation for Babylon because of their evil world system that has caused people to turn from God – Rev. 14:8 “And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” Babylon represents the world’s system of religious, commercial, and political oneness that rejects God and exalts man. Love for the world is spiritual fornication – James 4:4 “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” So we must even now be aware that we not become friends with this world, or God will consider us at enmity with Him.
  • A third angel leaves the Third Heaven with a message of damnation to all who receive the mark of the beast – Rev. 14:9-11 “And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” They will be tormented in fire and brimstone forever. They have been warned!https://i0.wp.com/admin.fridayfunfacts.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/FireBrimstone1.jpg
  • A voice is heard in the Third Heaven saying that, from this point on, those on earth who die in the Lord are blessed – Rev. 14:13 “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” Death will deliver them from the Great Tribulation. This is a good thing, seeing that this time will be the most horrific time in history – Matthew 24:21 “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.” This verse also indicates that Heaven will be a place of reward and rest.
  • A white cloud is seen in Heaven. Jesus sits on it with a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand – Rev. 14:14 “And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.”
  • An angel comes out of the Temple and, with a loud voice, encourages Jesus to thrust in His sharp sickle and reap the harvest from the earth. This is the gathering of the just to Christ in Heaven – Rev. 14:15-16 “And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.”
  • An angel with a sharp sickle comes out of the temple in Heaven – Rev. 14:17 “And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.”
  • A third angel comes from the altar and cries to the angel with the sickle. He asks the second angel to gather the unjust to the winepresses of the wrath of God. Jesus only gathers the righteous. An angel gathers the ungodly – Rev. 14:18-20 “And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.” The Lord will us 6 angels to do His work as shown in this chapter 14 of Revelation.

Revelation 14:6-20:
6   And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
7   Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
8   And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
9   And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10   The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11   And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
12   Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
13   And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
14   And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
15   And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
16   And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.
17   And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.
18   And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
19   And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
20   And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

Doctrine of Death – Part 4

V. Why do some bad believers die young?

A. Overmuch Wickedness – Ecclesiastes 7:17 – “Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?” Solomon sufficiently warns us here that a person who is overmuch wicked can die before his time. There is a divinely appointed time for each of us to die: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27) An unrepentant believer can move up that date on God’s calendar. Remember that “Christians” are still sinners, but sinners saved by Grace. A Christian has the capacity to commit just as horrendous sin as a lost person, especially when we are not walking closely with the Lord by staying in His Word and growing according to His plan. God’s merciful nature is to give people “space to repent” (Revelation 2:21) If one of His children persists in disobedience, He will remove that person so they cannot sin anymore. Any good parent “pulls their children in” when they are being bad. We call it being “grounded.”

English: The barren fig tree. French School. I...B. No Fruit – If a tree in an orchard does not bear fruit, it is removed and another tree is put in its place. Bearing fruit can save your life. Consider the parable of the barren fig tree: “He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.” (Luke 13:6-9)

God demands results. If we do not produce, He will replace us with someone who will. Jesus said, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: …” (John 15:16)

C. Chastisement – The ultimate chastisement of a believer is death. ” For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.” (1 Corinthians 11:30-32) In the Bible, the word “sleep” is often used synonymously with death. Here, chastisement refers to a father’s correction of his children. This is why some believers are weak, some are sickly, and some sleep (die prematurely).

The Lord chastens His children, but thankfully He does not condemn them. This is referring to the sleep of the body, not the sleep of the soul or spirit. As we have already seen, the spirit and soul never sleep. They go immediately upward to God or downward to hell. The body “sleeps” in the grave until the resurrection: “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:51)

” But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.” (1 Thessalonians 4:13-15)

D. Defiling the Temple of God – 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” The word “defile” means “to ruin by immoral influence, to deprave.” The body is holy. It is the temple of God. It is not to be defiled. The believer needs to stay away from all vices: alcohol, illegal drugs, junk food, gluttony, sexual sins, cigarettes, etc. What could be more clear?

E. Sin Unto Death – 1 John 5:16-17 “If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.” Some sins are greater than others – John 19:11 “Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.” Our position in Christ is eternally secure, but a great sin can lead to a person’s premature physical death. There are sins unto death. There are sins not unto death.

Some examples of sins unto death:

1. For Achan, it was covetousness – Joshua 7:20-21, 25-26 “And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done: When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it. And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones. And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.”

2. For Korah, it was the sin of rebellion against those in authority – “Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.” (Numbers 16:1-2, 31-32)

3. For Ananias and Sapphira, it was lying to the Holy Spirit – “But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things… And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.” (Acts 5:1-5, 7-10)

There are other examples in Scripture where people came under immediate judgment from God because of a sin unto death. I believe what is presented here is sufficient to make God’s point from His Word.

Angelology-The Doctrine of Angels

I must first apologize that for the past two weeks I have been stricken with a terrible bacterial respiratory infection. At one point it actually went into my eyes, and the doctor prescribed an eye drop that did more damage because of the reaction I had to it. I was prescribed a different antibiotic eye drop and am able to read and, therefore write again. I do believe I am being attacked by the evil one because this next entry is about the doctrine of Satan. I am sure he does not want anyone to know God’s truth from His word about him. Especially in these Last Days. I am hearing on FOX Cable News this morning (you may not hear it on the lamestream networks-I believe they work for satan) that Morsi, President of Egypt has just declared himself as Pharaoh. Need I say more?

As I mentioned at the beginning of these entries, these are studies that our preacher at our church has been teaching us over the past year or so. They are directly from God’s Word of Truth, The Holy Bible, the uncorrupted King James Version. The next section of study is on Angelology – The Doctrine of Angels. Most of us are aware that satan was once an angel, so the truth of his beginning and end is part of this study. I have decided to get this all in one post instead of breaking it into parts. Please take your time and study at your own pace. Though long, it is so well worth your time and effort.

I rebuke you satan and your evil minions from me and this witness for my God YHWH!

The Doctrine of Satan
I. His Existence

English: Satan as Antichrist

English: Satan as Antichrist (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

A. Doubted by the World – Ninety-four percent of Americans believe in a Supreme Being. Only forty percent believe in Satan. (AFA Journal, February, 1997) Perhaps it is easier for some to deny his existence than to face their fears and turn to God and His power to overcome. We also know that he does not bother anyone who is not a threat to him.

B. Portrayed by the World as a Fictitious Character – He is thought to be a medieval two-horned, fork-tailed impish creature, dressed in red flannel underwear. “If I were the devil, I would deny my existence in the world and down-play it in the local Church, thus freeing me to go about my business unheeded, unhindered and unchecked!” (The Baptist Bulletin, December 1971, page 13) Are we not seeing the consequences of this happening in our churches?

C. Declared by the Bible

1. The devil is mentioned in 7 Old Testament books – Genesis, 1 Chronicles, Job, Psalms, Isaiah, Ezekiel and Zechariah.

2. He is found in 19 New Testament books, and is referred to by every New Testament writer – Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Ephesians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 1 John, Jude, Revelation.

3. He is mentioned by the Lord Jesus Christ some 15 times! A few examples – Matthew 4:10 “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Matthew 16:23 “But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” Matthew 25:41 “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:” Luke 10:18 “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” Luke 22:31 “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.” John 8:44 ” Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

II. His Origin and Being

A. Created by God – Colossians 1:16, Revelation 4:11, Revelation 10:6, Ezekiel 28:12-15 “Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” Study of Ezekiel 28:12-19:

1. “Thou sealest up the sum,”Ezekiel 28:12. He was the epitome of God’s creation. God never created anything finer.

2. “Full of wisdom,” – Ezekiel 28:12. He did not need to learn wisdom, was created with fullness of wisdom. Now corrupted – verse 17 “Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.”

3. Perfect inbeauty,”– led to his prideful heart and downfall, verse 17. Also study Proverbs 16:18. His beauty is described in verse 13a. (Physical beauty is often depicted in Scripture as vanity – 2 Samuel 14:25, Proverbs 6:25, Proverbs 31:30, Matthew 5:28.) Remember, satan is a beautiful creature! Though he is really a cherubim, he transforms himself as an angel of light – 2 Corinthians 11:14 “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” He is not an ugly monster with a pitchfork in his hand. Many people are destroyed by the devil because they are looking for the wrong person.

4. “Thy tabrets..thy pipes was prepared in thee…,”verse 13b. Satan did not have to learn to play a musical instrument, he was a musical instrument. Thus, many forms of music today are satanic. Some are of God, some are of the devil (see Exodus 32:17-26). No other angels, seraphims or cherubims are said to be musical or singing.

English: The Mercy Seat, illustration from the...

5. “Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth…,”verses 14, 16. A cherub was a special kind of being whose purpose was to protect God’s holiness. “Covereth” in Hebrew means to protect, to fence in, defend. Exodus 25:19-20 as on the mercy seat, the cherubs were to cover the mercy seat.

6. “Thou wast upon the Holy mountain of God,”verse 14b. Satan had the most exalted position of any created being.

7. “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou was created…,”- verse 15. Originally, satan was a perfect creature, right up until he became a self-created sinner.

8. He is a real person with a celestial body – 1 Corinthians 15:39-40 “All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.”

9. He possesses intelligence – 2 Corinthians 2:11 “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” 2 Corinthians 11:3 “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”

10. He possesses memory, he quoted Psalms 91:11-12 to Christ on the mount of temptation. (Matthew 4:5-6, Luke 4:9-11)

11. He possesses a will – Isaiah 14:13-15 “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” 2 Timothy 2:26 “And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”

12. He possesses emotions: desire – Luke 22:31 “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat”, pride – Isaiah 14:13-14 “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:”, and wrath – Revelation 12:12 “Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”

13. He possesses organizational ability – The Bible speaks of Satan’s:

a. Synagogues – Revelation 2:9 “I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.”

b. Doctrines – 1 Timothy 4:1 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.”

c. Schemes:

i. Revolt of 1/3 of the angels with him – Revelation 12:4 “And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.”

ii. Will organize the last revolt – Revelation 20:7-9 “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.”

iii. Subjected Job to systematic trials – Job 1-2.

iv. Has his system of evil government – Ephesians 6:11-12 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

v. His schemes are called the “depths of satan” – Revelation 2:24 “But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.”

III. His Rebellion and Sin

A. Iniquity was revealed in Isaiah 14:13-14 “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” Note the 5 “I wills” of satan: “I” – the first sin was pride. “…will” – the second sin was rebellion. Each “I will” has significance.

1. “I will ascend into heaven.” Obviously, the third heaven where God is – 2 Corinthians 12:2

2. “I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.” Satan desiring the worship of all the angels, sometimes called stars  – Revelation 1:20; 12:4

3. “I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.” Satan wanted the worship of all God’s creatures (congregation) from the place where God sits. Consider Psalms 48:2 regarding the sides of the north. “Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.”

4. “I will ascend above the height of the clouds.” Probably a reference to wanting to be above God Himself – Nahum 1:3 “The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.”

5. “I will be like the most High.” Hebrew El-Elyon, which means “the strongest strong one.” Satan did not use one of the many caring names that God has, but rather one of ruling by strength. satan does not care about us, He just wants to rule us. He, thus, was a self-created sinner who exercised his free-will in pride and rebellion against God Most High.

IV. His Revolt

St Michael and the Devil

St Michael and the Devil (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

A. Led a third part of the angels in rebellion against God (Revelation 12:4 “And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.” Stars and angels are the same in this text, Revelation 1:20 “The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.”)

B. They gave their allegiance to satan – Revelation 12:7 “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels.”

C. Considered after the revolt to be satan’s angels and no longer. God’s angels – Revelation 12:7-9 “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

V. His Methods and Devices – Ephesians 6:11 tells us to stand against the wiles of the devil. Wiles comes from the Greek word “Methodeia” from which we get the understanding of the word to mean “methods.”

A. His Methods – General Works

1. Perverts God’s word, by changing it and questioning it – Genesis 3:1-5 “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

a. “Doctrines of devils” 1 Timothy 4:1

b. “Father of lies” – John 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

c. Inspires “lying wonders” – 2 Thessalonians 2:9 “Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.”

d. Steals the good seed – Matthew 13:19

e. Sows evil seed among us – Matthew 13:38-39

f. Blinds the minds of unbelievers – 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

2. Seeks to Destroy the Unsaved

a. Has dominion over sinners – Acts 26:18 “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.” John 13:2 “And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him” Ephesians 2:2 “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience”

b. Inflicts with disease – Luke 13:16 “And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?”

c. Afflicts the soul and body – Luke 9:1-2 “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.”

d. Has the power of death – Hebrews 2:14 “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;”

e. Seeks “to steal, kill and destroy” John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

3. Seeks to Render the Righteous Useless to God’s Work:

a. By affliction – Job 1:12; 2:4-7

b. By wrestling with us – Ephesians 6:12

c. By tempting to disobedience – 1 Chronicles 21:1 “And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.” Genesis 3:4-5

d. By slander – Job 1:9-11 “Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.”

e. By accusation – Revelation 12:9-10 “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

f. By hindering  – Zechariah 3:1 “And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.” 1 Thessalonians 2:18 “Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.”

g. By devouring us – 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

h. By instigating us to sin – Acts 5:3 “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?”

4. Imitates Religion

a. Preaches “another Jesus, another spirit, another gospel” – 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.” This is happening today in many of our churches.

b. Has false apostles and false teachers – 2 Corinthians 11:13 “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.” Anyone can go on the internet and become so-called “ordained minister.” They are false teachers.

c. Presents himself as an “angel of light” to deceive those looking for the true light – 2 Corinthians 11:14 “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” Many are too easily deceived these days.

d. Transforms his ministers as “ministers of righteousness” – 2 Corinthians 11:15 “Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” This makes me think of the homosexuals who get ordained and teach others in their churches that their lifestyle, which is an abomination to God, is okay with God. They will answer to God in the end.

B. His Devices – Specific Works – 2 Corinthians 2:11 tells us not to be ignorant of his devices. Devices are plans, schemes, tricks. The devil’s devices change with the ages (for instance, evil television shows were not a device of satan 100 years ago.) They change with the times and with every individual person. He has a particular will for every human being – 2 Timothy 2:24-26 “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” He, being full of wisdom, uses different devices on each person and in each circumstance to distract us from fulfilling God’s will. Some of the devil’s devices in our day may include, but are not limited to:

1. He tempts us to substitute good things for the best things. “Family time” instead of “Church time,” or “Sunday is my only day off to fix up the house,” etc.

2. He tempts us to focus on imperfections of other Christians rather than their good points.

3. He tempts us to focus on people rather than on Jesus.

4. He tempts us with numerous distractions such as sports, music, hobbies, TV, movies, parties, picnics, vacations, and money-making, to keep us from attending to main things.

5. He tempts us to look at the temporal (temporary) rather than the eternal (eternity), looking at the here and now.

6. He tempts us to get discouraged with one particular weakness or temptation to the point of giving up.

7. He tempts us to think that we are strong enough not to need prayer and daily food from God’s Word.

8. He tempts us to think that our problems are bigger than God.

9. He tempts us to think that God’s methods are outdated and that they will not work today.

10. He tempts us to procrastinate.

11. He tempts us to fear the future, resulting in worry, care, anxiety, etc.

12. He tempts us to fear people, making us afraid to witness to them.

13. He tempts us to think that someone else will do it.

14. He tempts us to think that it is not our job (Soulwinning, caring for others, giving money, bringing people to church, etc.)

15. He tempts us to think that commandments are “callings.” (Soulwinning, etc.)

16. He tempts us to think that “God made me this way,” and I cannot change.

17. He tempts us to think that we are too young or too old.

18. He tempts us to question God’s ownership of us. Satan deleted “Lord” from “Lord God” when he addressed Eve in Genesis 3:1-5.

19. He tempts us to think that we do not know enough to do a certain job for God.

20. He tempts us to focus on our inadequacies, “Why would God use me?”

21. He tempts us to move too soon.

22. He tempts us to fear failure.

There are many devices of the devil. These are just a few suggestions. I know I can certainly relate to many of them. I am sure you can think of more, “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” (2 Corinthians 2:11) Do not be ignorant of these devices of Satan today! Identify them and overcome them! God will help you; all you have to do is ask Him.

Ventano del diablo II

A. Jesus called satan the “prince” of this world. Prince means “first in rank or power,” “chief ruler” – John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11

B. The Pharisees called satan Beelzebub, the “Prince of the devils” Matthew 9:34, 12:24 “But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.” Mark 3:22-24 “And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.”

C. Paul called the devil “the prince of the power of the air” (the prevailing spirit among mankind) Ephesians 2:2.

D. Paul also called satan “the god of this world” in 2 Corinthians 4:3-4.

E. Jesus declared plainly that satan has a kingdom – Matthew 12:26 “And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?” See also Luke 11:18

F. Satan plainly claimed ownership of all the kingdoms of the world and their glory – Matthew 4:8-9 “Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.” See also Luke 4:5-7.

G. Satan’s kingdom is fourfold – (Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”)

1. Principalities – are chiefs in various orders of place or ranks. Example, “prince of Persia” who resisted Daniel’s prayer and fought with Michael the archangel – Daniel 10:10-13 “And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.” Also, the God of battles would fight also the “prince of Grecia” – Daniel 10:20 “Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.” Plus, the “prince of Tyrus” in Ezekiel 28:2.

2. Powers – are “governments, authorities, powers of influence” on earth, the spirit of antichrist that permeates the world even now – 1 John 4:3 “And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”

3. Rulers of the darkness of this world – humans in governments that are tools the devil is using. Also, who is not aware of the Illuminati who have been around for centuries?

4. Spiritual wickedness in high places – humans in religions that are tools the devil is using, religious leaders – 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” “High places” is a common phrase in the Old Testament to false religious worship and idolatry.

VII. His Demise and Destruction

A. Foretold by Jesus – Luke 10:18 “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.”

Engraving by Michael Burgesse after John Bapti...

B. Will be cast out of Heaven (Revelation 12:7-10) as the result of a future war in Heaven between Michael and his angels and the devil and his angels. “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

C. He will come to earth in greater wrath than ever – Revelation 12:12 “Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”

D. He will enjoy the pinnacle of his kingdom and being worshipped for a short time on earth – Revelation 13:4 “And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?” Revelation 16:2 “And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.” Revelation 19:20 “And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.”

E. Satan will be bound for 1000 years in a bottomless pit – Revelation 20:2-3 “And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.”

F. He will be “loosed” for a short time and will “deceive the nations” of the earth to fight against God – Revelation 20:7-9 “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.” The battle will be very short-lived!
